Dear friends,

I hope you are well and that you may have enjoyed a short seasonal break wherever you are in the world!

I wanted to update you all on the progress of our joint campaigning for September. As you know from previous emails, we have been planning for a whole year to prepare for the SDG Summit as a point when we must demand more ambition from Heads of State and Government. Over the past year, we have organised a questionnaire and a series of workshops in Johannesburg, Bangkok, Marrakech, Santiago and Belgrade, we have listened to hundreds of you and also to our friends in wider civil society, including those working on human rights, development, gender equality, youth, nature, climate and many more.

These dialogues led to our strong joint statement at the HLPF to call for a moment of solidarity- to Stand Together Now for a Just, Peaceful and Sustainable World, #StandTogetherNow.

If you haven’t signed the statement yet, please sign it on standtogethernow.net

This movement has continued to grow in strength and we are working in solidarity with many other partners for a Global Week of Action. We are planning ahead for our joint mobilisation in over 30 countries to demonstrate the strength of our voices alongside the broader movement, including the Fridays for Future school strike on Friday 20 and Global Climate Strike on 27 September, as well as the actions of the Act4SDGs community. This is going to be a huge week!

Here are the mobilisations that some of our partners have started to list:

You can join #StandTogetherNow by:
  • Taking a look at the Toolkit to give you some inspiration for action.
  • Sharing your plan for a national action through this survey. Your initiatives will show up on our updated map.
  • Join an action in your city or town
  • Share the action on social media using the hashtag #StandTogetherNow
We also aim to host a session in New York at the SDG Action Zone and we will be able to feature the best photos and videos in front of key leaders gathering there so please send us your ideas.

In solidarity,

Oli Henman

Global Coordinator
