Dear Participants,

We are writing to you because of your strong professional interest and leadership activity in the area of climate and clean energy in the Asia Region.

It is our pleasure to invite you to participate in Asia-Pacific Climate Week 2017 (APCW 2017), which will be convened by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and partners, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), UN Environment, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), from 13 to 15 December 2017 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. As the first major climate event in the Asia-Pacific region following the COP23, APCW 2017 will provide an opportunity to take stock of the COP23 outcomes and what they mean for the region.

Drawing on the presence of the High-Level Climate Change Champion from Fiji, Ministers, senior policymakers, private sector practitioners, development partners, scholars and stakeholders from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, the week hosts a number of engaging events, workshops, and roundtables on different topics and provides an excellent networking platform.

Highlights of the week include:

  • The role of the private sector to raise pre-2020 ambition, how to advance climate action in various key areas including oceans, urban development, waste management, and sustainable agriculture, the role of carbon markets, MRV and transparency, and finance for climate action (13-14 December)
  • Roundtables on the future of CDM, progress on carbon pricing in the region, including the new ETS in China, ways to strengthen regional collaboration on carbon pricing for cost-effective achievement of the NDCs, carbon finance, and capacity-building for negotiators (13-14 December)
  • High Level Ministerial Segment for Climate Action (15 December) focussing on Global Climate Action, capital markets to finance climate action and the development of a Regional Climate Action Agenda as a key outcome.

For more information, you can visit the event web site at http://www.asiacarbonforum.com/ and complete the On-line Registration Form.

If you have individual questions, please feel free to contact me Dr. Peter du Pont, Event Coordinator (petertownsend.dupont@un.org).

We highly encourage you to share this email and related links across your networks, and especially with business people, investors, bankers, and private sector leaders who are committed to acting on climate change through their strategies, investments, and business leadership.

We hope that you will be able to join us at Asia Pacific Climate Week in Bangkok during 13-15 December 2017.

Your sincerely,
