CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST TO PARTICIPATE

The UNESCO 2019 Forum on Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship, from 2 to 3 July 2019 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam

It is my pleasure to inform you that UNESCO is organizing the “UNESCO 2019 Forum on Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship” from 2 to 3 July 2019 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Training of Viet Nam and the Viet Nam National Commission for UNESCO. Please find enclosed the Concept Note and the Draft Programme of the Forum.

The UNESCO Forum will focus on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED), two key programmes to the achievement of Target 4.7 of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on Education. The theme of the UNESCO Forum will be “Learning and Teaching for Peaceful and Sustainable Societies: From early childhood to primary and secondary education”. On the occasion, UNESCO will launch a study on how the three learning dimensions of ESD and GCED (cognitive, socio-emotional and behavioural) are reflected in curricula at pre-primary, primary education (PE) and secondary education (SE) levels in ten countries from across the world. In this light, the UNESCO Forum will provide a platform to exchange experience and innovative approaches on how to address gaps and fully harness the potential of these three domains of learning, at pre-primary, PE and SE levels, in order to support sustainable development and global citizenship.

Kindly note that participation in the Forum is by invitation only. Therefore, I encourage interested individuals/organizations to complete the Expression of Interest Form.

Link to the online form: https://secure.unesco.org/survey/index.php?sid=98456&newtest=Y   by 17 April 2019. Any questions may be addressed to ESDGCEDForum@unesco.org.

Targeted participants include policy-makers, education practitioners, representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), experts, development community, and the private sector actively working in the areas of ESD and GCED. The attached concept note and draft programme provide further information on the Forum, including its objectives and format.

UNESCO will review all submissions received considering among other things, the need to ensure geographic and gender balance, before issuing a formal invitation to participants. Please note that UNESCO may not be able to consider positively all expressions of interest. Invited participants are expected to cover their travel expenses and accommodation and are responsible for requesting the appropriate entry visa to Viet Nam at the relevant Embassy or Consulate. Limited financial resources from UNESCO will be available only for a limited number of participants from least developed countries.

Thank you in advance for sharing this information as relevant with your ESD/GCED partners.

Thank you for your support,
